description: Red Cross Chapters in the United States The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization that provides emergency assistance, disaster relief and education inside the United States. In addition to domestic disaster relief, the American Red Cross offers compassionate services in five other areas: community services that help the needy; support and comfort for military members and their families; the collection, processing and distribution of lifesaving blood and blood products; educational programs that promote health and safety; and international relief and development programs. The Red Cross is Governed by volunteers and supported by community donations. This dataset contains chapter facilities operated by the American Red Cross. In cases where a chapter does not exist in a service area, local offices that act as a chapter are included. Branch offices, service centers, blood drawing events/location, temporary disaster relief centers, blood mobiles and personal homes are intended to be excluded from this dataset, but a few may be included.
