description: The NPDES module of the Compliance Information System (ICIS) tracks surface water permits issued under the Clean Water Act. Under NPDES, all facilities that discharge pollutants from any point source into waters of the United States are required to obtain a permit. The permit will likely contain limits on what can be discharged, impose monitoring and reporting requirements, and include other provisions to ensure that the discharge does not adversely affect water quality. In Mississippi, EPA issues NPDES permits on tribal lands within the Choctaw Indian Reservation (see table below). EPA has delegated authority to issue other NPDES permits to the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality. This data was last updated December, 2021. *** NOTE: MARIS staff downloaded the national geodatabase from EPA and extracted Mississippi's sites using RESELECT STATE_CODE = "MS" For more information, see https://www.epa.gov/frs
